What started as a normal working day for an alleged Vanderbijlpark bogus doctor ended horribly when he was ambushed and arrested.
His arrest was not a normal arrest, but involved the Gauteng MEC for Community Safety Faith Mazibuko and officials from the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA)
Mazibuko told the media that the surgery was closed due to non-compliance which includes employing a bogus doctor.
In a statement Mazibuko said: “Surgery closed in Vanderbijlpark due to non-compliance and for employing a bogus doctor.”
The arrest followed after HPCSA, MEC and Vanderbijlpark SAPS staged an unannounced visit to Chericha Day Clinic where they found everyone with pants down.
This is not the first case of this kind in Vanderbijlpark. Another bogus optician who had operated for 15 years was arrested in in August.
The alleged optician was cutting, fitting and dispensing spectacles in Vanderbijlpark.
The HPCSA expressed concern over the increasing tendencies of registered practitioners who employ unregistered locums to work in their practices.
“The HPCSA and Law Enforcement agencies are working tirelessly to eradicate the illegal health care practice of bogus healthcare practitioners.”
HPCSA is urging members of the public to report suspicious illegal practices by unregistered persons as it puts people’s lives at risk.
