The total number of Covid 19 cases in Gauteng stood at 206 525 with 174 248 recoveries and 3280 deaths as of 24 August. The statistics were released by the Gauteng Department of Health.
“Out of a total of 116 298 contacts traced,.. individuals who were in contact with people who tested positive for COVID-19..; 94 711 people have completed the 10 days monitoring period with no symptoms reported and therefore they are de-isolated,” reads part of the report of the Gauteng Health Department.
The reported added that 3232 people were currently hospitalized in the public and private facilities in Gauteng.
The department also said, Nasrec Quarantine Centre was the only field hospital in operation in Gauteng.
“The plan to expand on other field hospitals has been reconsidered by the Gauteng Provincial Command Council. This is informed by
the burden of disease, by clinicians on the ground and other experts,” said the departmen.
The Health department added that the NASREC facility will continue to operate in order provide additional capacity to hospitals and to bolster the provincial response to COVID-19 in the event of another surge.
The NASREC facility was initially identified as a Quarantine and Isolation facility 2 under Phase 1. The facility was then identified as a Field Hospital under Phase 2. Phase 2, was to accommodate beds with Oxygenated points.
NASREC Centre currently has 1500 beds with over 400 beds with Oxygenated points.
Sedibeng has 13 914 cases, 32 news cases, 262 deaths and 9787 recoveries. Emfuleni has 10490 cases,7783 recoveries, while Lesedi has 1907 cases, 1187 recoveries and Midvaal as 1473 and 817 recoveries.
