A Phoenix High School student in Vereeniging has tested positive for Covid 19. This is a first confirmation of a Coronavirus case of a learner from Vaal. The school has shut down doors again to allow deep cleaning. Those who had contact with the grade 12 learner are under family monitoring from their homes. The former old Technical High School will be opened again on 22 June after the completion of all health procedures.
School Principal a Mr Botha said the school was doing everything in its powers to fend off the COVID 19 pandemic. This is a classic case of how unprepared schools are to operate under a COVID 19 environment as has been expressed by unions in the education sector. Minister of Basic Education Angie Motshekga proceeded to order the re-opening of schools despite glaring challenges in making the schools safe.
