Rubbish Collection van collecting expired food stuffs from a Vaal Shop

Police pounced on a grocery shop in Vanderbijlpark selling expired food stuffs. Backed by a rubbish collection van, metro police and members of the SAPS confiscated the Pine Disco shop operating in central Vanderbijlpark during an operation which was witnessed by Gauteng MEC for safety and Security Faith Mazibuko. Council officials confided to Vaal Observer that the seizure followed after a numerous tip offs from residents of Vanderbijlpark. The impounding team seized groceries including dilution drinks, tinned foods and dried chips before dumping them in rubbish collection van. The shop workers watched helplessly as police seized their stock. The owner of the shop was not available to comment. Vaal Observer’s attempt to speak to MEC Mazibuko was interrupted by a Gauteng Traffic cop, who demanded a Covid 19 exemption certificate to work during the lockdown. The cop didn’t seem to realise that the media was regarded as essential service. The journalist was eventually detained in a police van for two hours, before being released without any charge being laid against him. Vaal Observer shall be taking up the issue with the police this week.
