Vaal man arrested for scaring community with coronavirus infection

A Vaal resident was arrested by police for circulating an alarming message threatening to deliberately spread coronavirus.

The Zone 6 Sebokeng man used his sister’s Facebook Account to circulate the message prompting a scare in the area. Puzzled residents alerted the police of the ugly threat, and investigations found that a 40 year old man Tshepo Maboko allegedly used his sister’s facebook page to scare residents

Police Spokesperson Brigadier Vish Naidoo confirmed that Maboko allegedly committed the offence last week. “A charge of defamation of character under Covid-19 regulations has been opened against a Zone 6 Sebokeng man. This follows an incident where a woman claims that her Facebook page was hacked by her brother who then put a message about her being positive with Corona Virus,” said Naidoo. He continued: “On investigation, police found out that the complainant’s brother living at the same address was the person who posted the lies on his sister’s Facebook account. He was subsequently arrested.” The suspect has been released on a warning by court
