Free State Community around Thaba Nchu is in a state of panic after rumours started circulating that the Black Mountain Hotel perched on a the mountain has been chosen as a quarantine area.
Jacaranda FM reported yesterday that Cosatu Secretary in the Free State, Monyatso Mahlatsi, claims to have received information that Thaba Nchu has been chosen as the area for quarantine.
Members of the community are reportedly agitated as the new development poses health hazards to Vaal’s immediate neighbours. Rumours claim that Thaba Nchu will quarantine more than 150 South Africans coming from coronavirus infected countries. It is also claimed that health department officials inspected the facilities for the purpose of quarantining.
News24 understands that government has already inspected Black Mountain Reserve, but according Popo Maja, spokesperson for the Department of Health, said 83 other sites in South Africa have also been inspected adding that no final decision was made on quarantine locations.
The hotel’s general manager, Peter Leonard, told the publication that he did not know anything about rumours that the hotel is a possible site for quarantine, and is unsure of whether government inspected the place.
He, however, said that nothing was signed.
